ABOUT US ... A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

The cricket match takes place in the park of the Old Rectory in Carlton and is organised by local people. This year will be the 6th match for the Addenbrooke's TCT unit. We have raised at least £60,000 for TCT and about £20,000 for the English Schools' Cricket Assoc, which helps school children into cricket and is the Bunbury charity.

The event would not be possible without the support of the whole community: Excell contribute enormously to the running costs. Chimneys keep the players well fed at lunch time and lend me the crockery for their tea! Local companies advertise regularly in the programme and donate raffle and auction prizes. My Dad, Robin tends to his 'Field' as Dave calls it with the help of my brother and his assistant with loving care starting the day after The Match each year. Simpers donate the use of and gas for the BBQ; Barkers donate the rolls; Tesco the sausages; Veolia provide all of the bins and remove them full for free. Cricket Stick give us the balls and Hunts Bats give us the bats. We borrow the coconut shy and 'Bowling for a Pig'. Willow spends weeks procuring raffle prizes along with Jean who manages to get posters up everywhere. Julie is good at getting donations for TCT. Helen and Sally organise and run the most amazing Bar and Rota of willing village helpers. Vijju, Larry and their girls have sorted out the posters and content of the website (managed for us free of charge by Catfishwebdesign) along with sorting out the Rota on the gate and some photography too! Bill, Martin, Nigel and John spend time helping us to put it all together in the field. Gill, Peter and David sort out the running of the BBQ with a band of willing helpers including Bill who donates and peels the onions. Liz looks after the player's when Chimney's don't! I organise the tea tent and traditional stalls with another group of hard working volunteers. Robert sponsors the P.A. system. Fay and Mark come down from Leeds for a working weekend to look after the finances for us, so nothing goes missing. My aunt and cousin donate their field for parking. We have a fantastic T-Shirt and CD stall, run by Jeanie with new stock donated by Polydor Records and Jeremy Joseph, and of course we must not forget all of the people in whatever capacity who are giving up their time to help make the event a success and it goes without saying save us a great deal of money.

The event would not happen at all without the wonderful Dave English and his loyal Bunbury Team, they have never failed us and we thank Harry Judd for being so loyal to the Home team for TCT and for being a great captain leading his band of players out to battle with the Bunburys. It never fails to amaze me just how generous in spirit all these people are especially as Dad's field is not in the most convenient of locations; we really do thank them all most sincerely for everything they contribute.
