TICKETS GO ON SALE FOR ANNUAL CELEBRITY TEENAGE CANCER TRUST CRICKET MATCH
Sponsored by Cambridge-based Excell Group Plc and hosted by Robin and Willow Wylie, all funds raised will go towards Teenage Cancer Trust's £1million Addenbrooke's appeal and the England Schools Cricket Association. Tickets for the match, which will take place at The Old Rectory, Carlton, Nr Newmarket from 11.30am (gates open 11am), are now on sale. Tickets cost just £10 for adults and kids go free (all donations welcome). As well as cricket, there's something for all the family, with live music, children's entertainment, food and craft stalls, licensed bar, a raffle and auction with a guest appearance from the BBC Antiques Roadshow presenter, Lars Tharp. Roger Daltrey said "This is a great day out for all the family but most importantly a way to raise money for two very important charities. Six young people are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK - at Teenage Cancer Trust we are striving to ensure that every one of these young people has access to a specialist teenage cancer unit. In East Anglia, this means raising £1million to build a new unit at Addenbrooke's hospital. This unit will provide young people in the area with the very best environment to be treated in, and the very best chance of survival. This is your hospital, these are your teenagers - please help us make this happen by buying a ticket and coming along to the match." Darren Strowger, Chairman of local telecommunications supplier Excell, who are proud sponsors of the cricket match adds, " Excell are delighted to be supporting this incredibly worthwhile event, and would love to see as many people come along as possible to help raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust's Addenbrooke's appeal." A full line-up of celebrity players will be announced soon. 2008's line-up included ex-England cricketers, Phil Tufnell and Devon Malcolm, pop star, Harry Judd, Chris Sutton (Aston Villa FC), Darren Cousins and Ben Howgego (Northants players) , Lloyd Hunnighan (boxer), Ed Giddens (England and Sussex player) and Bunbury founder, David English MBE. Teenage Cancer Trust's planned unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, will cost around £2million to complete, with half of this money needing to be raised locally in East Anglia. Design of the unit is underway, incorporating lots of innovative ideas about space and décor provided by teenage cancer patients themselves. Building work is scheduled to start at the end of 2009, and due to be completed by the end of 2010. The specialist unit will cater for cancer patients aged between 13 and 24, from East Anglia and surrounding areas and will provide 10 in-patient beds plus out-patient and day care facilities, open-plan social and recreation areas, a kitchen and dining area for patients and parents, digital lighting systems, broadband connectivity and cutting edge computing, gaming and entertainment equipment. In the meantime, a temporary facility, The Oasis, has been developed.
