Message to supporters
From Robin Wylie, The Old Rectory, Carlton

Dear Supporter

Our childhood is something that most of us are lucky enough to look back on with fond memories, I for one have very happy memories of growing up and playing in the park that you stand in now over 70 years ago. However, not all of us are so lucky, and more and more teenagers are being diagnosed with types of cancer that are robbing them of their most formative years. And this is where Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) comes in. Started in 1990 TCT was set up to help teenagers cope with the demands put on them by finding out they have cancer.

Cancers in teenagers and young adults can be very aggressive especially as those in such an age group are inclined to growth spurts, which can aggravate the disease further. TCT also recognises that those suffering in this age group need to be in an environment that is conducive to them, i.e. not in a children's ward that they have outgrown or an adults ward where they are unable to relate to anyone. Those suffering with such a life changing illness need to be around those that are on the same 'wave length' as them to help them with support and recovery, and this is why the work that Teenage Cancer Trust does is so important.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome back the TCT XI captained by Harry Judd and David English's Bunbury team for the 3rd year of Cricket in the Park. Each year we have gone from strength to strength and seem to be gaining momentum as we go for a bigger and better day, which is enjoyed by all. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of those behind the scenes that do so much on the run up to today to make it such a success, especially our sponsors, Excell.

But lastly I would like to thank you for coming here and supporting us today, without you the event wouldn't be possible.
